Cigarette smoke contains over 4,000 different chemicals, 50 of which are known carcinogens which can cause cancer. You wouldn’t roll up rat poison, acetone, candle wax, and embalming fluid and smoke it on purpose, would you? Most people never even realize that smoking cigarettes exposes them to a long list of nasty ingredients that are inhaled every time they light up and smoke a cigarette!
Cigarettes are popular, however most people never take the time to learn what they are inhaling every time they take a puff. It is not one, or two, but several that alone are potentially fatal in small doses. Along with acetone, a nail polish remover, there is also ammonia which is used in toilet cleaners, but also arsenic which is used in rat poison. Benezene and Butane are types of gasoline and lighter fluid, along with cadmium, which is an active ingredient in batteries. DDT is an insecticide, methane is sewer gas and methanol a fuel used for rockets. Think that’s all, not yet! Hexamine is lighter fluid, formaldehyde is embalming fluid and toluene is an industrial solvent. There are more, however that is just a few to name. Nicotine is actually a bug killer!
Nicotine (one of the most addictive substances on the planet), and carbon monoxide, which is car exhaust! Smoke containing nicotine is inhaled into your lungs, reaching your brain in less than six seconds. Nicotine acts as a stimulant to the brain. In large doses, it’s a depressant that can inhibit the flow of signals between your nerve cells. In even larger quantities it can be a lethal poison that affects a person’s heart and blood vessels. The tar in cigarettes over time forms a sticky mass in your lungs. The more you inhale from a cigarette, the better you begin to feel but in return more damage is done to your lungs.
Learning a little more about cigarettes will help you make the decision to put that nasty killer down. Along with the fact that there are several deadly ingredients, the habit is expensive and dangerous for those around you!
